STC and Humanity & Inclusion Partner to Empower ECDs in Ndiza Region Through Mushroom Growing Project
The project named ENHANCING INCLUSION, PROMOTING NUTRITION AND ACCESIBILITY IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS IN NDIZA REGION is a being implemented in STC in collaboration with HI.
in Stand Together for Change (STC), we believe that impactful change begins at the grassroots level, especially when it involves the well-being and growth of young children. With this belief, STC, in collaboration with Humanity & Inclusion (HI), has embarked on an inspiring project in the Ndiza region, focused on teaching Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers the benefits of mushroom growing for both nutrition and economic empowerment
This project is driven by a dual purpose: to address
nutritional and inclusion gaps for children in ECDs and to equip these centers
with skills and equipment that can support ECDs in promoting inclusion,
generate sustainable income. Mushrooms are not only an excellent source of
essential nutrients but also present a low-cost, high-yield farming opportunity
that ECD centers can adopt to support their communities.
we do advocacy to run our initiatives and our actions started in january 2020 we started with nothing unless the family members efforts and our professional knowledge to carry on these initiatives
To kick off the project, STC conducted training sessions for
the caregivers and some parents of ECDs across the selected ECDs. These
sessions were designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of mushroom
farming, covering everything from the preparation of growing substrates to
harvesting and marketing the produce. The training also emphasized the
nutritional value of mushrooms and how incorporating them into children’s meals
can boost their health and development. STC provided books and catalogues for
the parents in ECD to prepare the place to grow mushrooms while waiting for the
seeds, These trainings covered 5 sectors; Kiyumba, Nyabinoni, Rongi, Kabacuzi, Kibangu
and among all sectors there are two selected ECDs in each which makes them 10
